Career assessment is one way to find an appropriate college major and a career path. Assessment instruments can give you new ideas, confirm thoughts you may already have about a good career area to pursue, and give you new language to describe what you want out of life.No test, however, will isolate "one" career that you must follow.

There are two online career assessment instruments available through the Student Services Office for students and non-students.

Myers -Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Step 1 Form M

  1. Internationally used personality inventory helps you identify "who you are."
  2. Identifies job families, or broad occupational categories, to help get you started in your career search.
  3. Assists you in selecting a college major or course of study.
  4. Assists you in choosing a specific job or career, or a career transition or shift.
  5. Helps you identify strengths and potential weaknesses of your type for the career search process.
  6. Provides career development strategy and action steps.
  7. Includes 2 reports (11 pages) plus booklet.
  8. $30.00 for students and alumni; $40.00 for all others.

Newly Revised Strong Interest Inventory, (SII)

  1. Identifies career options consistent with your interests in comparison with successful professionals representing 122 occupational fields.
  2. Assists you in choosing appropriate education and training relevant to your interests.
  3. Helps you understand how elements of a job may differ from studying the subject (i.e. enjoying a Psychology course is different from liking the daily work requirements performed by a Psychologist).
  4. Identifies typical college majors and extracurricular activities or internships that provide "real-world" experience.
  5. Shows your preferences for risk-taking, leadership and teamwork.
  6. Includes a 22 page interpretive report.
  7. $30.00 for students and alumni; $40.00 for all others.
